Pilot Flight 1549 - A True US Hero! The man who saved all aboard the US Airways airplane that crashed in Hudson River on 15-01-2009
Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, III is a captain for a major U.S. airline with over 40 years of flying experience. A former U.S. Air Force (USAF) fighter pilot, he has served as an instructor and Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) safety chairman, accident investigator and national technical committee member. He has participated in several USAF and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accident investigations.
His ALPA safety work led to the development of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular. Working with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists, he coauthored a paper on error inducing contexts in aviation. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Crew Resource Management (CRM) course used at his airline and has taught the course to hundreds of his colleagues.
Sully is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy (B.S.), Purdue University (M.S.) and the University of Northern Colorado (M.A.). He was a speaker on two panels at the High Reliability Organizations (HRO) 2007 International Conference in Deauville, France May 29-31, 2007. He has just been named a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.

Great Human Being, God bless you!
ReplyDeleteThis pilot is just amazing. I have heard all day how he was "just doing as he was trained" etc but *training* for something like this and actually living it aren't the same thing. To have just seconds to make major decisions that could mean life or death adds a whole new level, one that all the training in the world couldn't fully prepare you for. Not only did this pilot protect the people on the plane but also all those in the surrounding buildings-he even missed the bridge entirely.
ReplyDeleteTo realize how awful this could have been and know everyone walked away because he made all the right decisions makes him a huge hero in my book.
As much as I don't like to fly, I would fly on any of his flights.
You killed the damn birds!!!! Murderer
ReplyDeletethe birds went to god the people went home to their families!!
ReplyDeleteDiscipline, Training, Habits, and I have to guess an amazing prayer life. Mr. Sullenberger's resume is pretty impressive and he's achived a lot in his life. If I could ask him one question after this amazing day in history, I'd love to know what role God plays in his daily life, and what divine intervention he saw in that amazing landing and rescue effort in what is now called a Miracle on the Hudson.
ReplyDeleteCapitan Chesley,
